Offenders Programs
The Pauquette
Center for Psychological Services offers a variety of evaluative and
treatment programs for individuals who are being considered for prosecution or
who have recently been prosecuted for offenses such as domestic violence or
disorderly conduct. Individual
treatment programs are presently available at the Pauquette Center in Portage,
Baraboo, and Columbus.
Referrals are accepted from probation and parole officers, prosecuting
and defense attorneys, and the courts.
These
services include assessment services, treatment
for perpetrators of domestic abuse, anger management, corrective
thinking treatment programs, substance abuse treatment
programs, family services and deferred
prosecution treatment programs

Anger Management Program
This
program targets those individuals whose particular offense was largely due to
poor anger control or explosive rage. The
offender learns the stages of anger, how to recognize, interrupt and quiet
escalating patterns of anger, and how to manage anger in constructive ways.

Corrective Thinking
Program
This
program is intended for individuals who find themselves in frequent violation
of the
law, perhaps habitually so, without the apparent ability to control their
behavior. Anger may or may not be
a contributing factor in the pattern of offenses.
The offender is provided with means to modify patterns of thought
associated with criminal activity and to make the behavioral changes necessary
to prevent further law breaking.

Deferred Prosecution
Services
A deferred prosecution program is available, when arranged
by the local District Attorney’s office.
After psychological assessment, a plan of intervention and treatment is
developed to address the specific needs of the offender.
Generally, this program is available to first time offenders only.
Treatment may be provided in individual and/or group formats. The offender may be referred into one of the offender
programs described above as part of his or her treatment contract.

Domestic
Abuse Perpetrator Treatment
This
treatment program is designed to address the underlying causes of domestic
violence. This program
offers offenders an opportunity to understand and implement changes in their
patterns of behavior, thought and emotion that lead to domestic abuse.
Specific change strategies are taught to help the offender prevent
further occurrences of aggression.

Family Services
Individual,
marital and family counseling services are offered at all locations, to both
offenders and victims.

Substance Abuse Services
Psychoactive
substance use and abuse is implicated in a substantial number of offenses that
reach the attention of the criminal justice system.
These services include comprehensive assessment for substance use
disorders, educational programs, and individual and family alcohol or other
drug abuse (AODA) counseling. These
services are available to offenders with a history of AODA problems or whose
offenses were related to alcohol or drug use or abuse.
Treatment options include basic education, relapse prevention
interventions, peer support groups, primary outpatient treatment, family
services, participation in a "second offenders"
group and referral for more intensive day-treatment or inpatient services.
